Eighties style is back this autumn

October 3, 2015

Eighties style is big this autumn and winter, and they are definitely the seasons for you, if you love 80s styles, the colours and the glitz.

If your parents are old enough to remember the 80s they may be able to offer you a few pointers, and if not do not fear, because in this post we’re going to talk you through how you can incorporate key looks from the 80s into your closet.

Eighties style – Big, bright and bold

The 80s weren’t the fashion decade for the shy or retiring. This was a decade of glitz, sparkle and glamour, with bright colours, big shoulders and big hair. You can go all out 80s from head to toe, or you can mix it up with more contemporary pieces.

It’s entirely up to you how far you want to go, but a big bold 80s look will certainly take you through the gloom of winter.

Eighties style – Glitz, glimmer and shine

In this autumn’s wardrobe there’s lots of glitz and glimmer with jumpsuits, skin tight sparkle, shiny shoulders and the odd power shoulder. There’s also brightly coloured knits, multi or bright block colours.

Eighties style – it could be here for a while

Keep in mind that the 80s vibe could still be around next spring, so get used to it.

In the meantime for autumn, think big box coats with big padded shoulders along with oversized jackets in bright colours.

Eighties style – Jumpsuits and metallic coloured pants

Keep an eye out for metallic trousers and jumpsuits in muted colours, military green is hot this autumn.Jumpsuits can be glammed up for night wear or they can be toned down for the office.

Eighties style – Embellishments

Accessorises are big and bright and not for the faint hearted, skin tight body con dresses are worn with big belts. There’s sequins and beading to accessorize outfits and they can really transform an outfit, add to a dress, pants or top, or buy them with embellishments already on.

Knits

Yes, knitted tank tops are back, you may see this as a disaster, or you may be excited by the prospect of wearing one. There’s multi coloured and block colours and either one can transform a top worn underneath.

Lurex

Lurex was an extremely popular fabric and it can be again. Lurex jackets worn with jeans makes for a dramatic entrance, a shiny diamond toned shade will brighten less exciting items, giving you a really lux look.

Any kind of glitter, sparkle and metallic shine is going to really brighten up an outfit and if you’re brave enough, try and compliment it with colour and accessories. Not everything you’re wearing will necessarily have to be shining and sparkling, it can be one item or even two.

Eighties style – vintage

Yes vintage is always best and you can dress in tune with the times this autumn by sourcing authentic vintage 80s clothing from your favourite vintage boutique – Blue17 perhaps? Then you can really enjoy this fun 80s trend to the full.

Mix and match with contemporary items and you’ve got a bang on trend look to see you through to Spring.
