Vintage trends for Spring Summer 2016

November 26, 2015

Spring/summer 2016 has seen a number of vintage trends overhauled in modern designer collections. Year on year we see a subtle yet powerful mixture of trends emerge that have roots in a much-loved bygone era. Take a look at the top trends for spring/summer 2016 that have strong vintage influences.

Vintage trends – Retro Revamped

The catwalks were awash with interesting retro shapes, embellishments and layering. Decadent pussy bows saw a beautiful revival in Gucci’s collection and strong 70s inspired prints made waves on the Miu Miu catwalk.

Vintage trends – 90s Minimalism

The slip has been a staple undergarment since the 40s and since its revival in the 90s, designers have revamped this simple and elegant underwear piece and brought it back with a modern sophisticated twist. Cute lace detailing and pretty floaty lines graced Victoria Beckham’s show, proving a perfect staple piece for your spring wardrobe.

Vintage trends – Solid Striping

Stripes are always a big feature in catwalk collections, whether they showcase fine detailing or bold examples. This season saw exciting and vibrant colourings proving vintage inspiration runs deep in designer collections. Missoni showcased vivacious tones and daring stripes in its latest collection.

Vintage trends – All that Glitters

The catwalk wouldn’t be complete without some vintage glamour, this season has seen the return of the sequin in exquisite form. Designers such as Pucci displayed a 40s influence with beautiful lines and shimmering elegance. Others teamed glitz with large embellishment such as the gorgeous Roberto Cavalli gown, that is sure to be a hit on the red carpet next year.

Vintage trends – Spring Bomber Jackets

Ideal outerwear for spring is the bomber jacket, a practical yet light example perfect for when the weather starts to warm up. Designers have grabbed the opportunity to revamp this vintage trend and give it an updated twist. Bold print featured in Cavalli’s collection whilst Rag and Bone decided to keep it simple with a shiny American style piece.

New Romantics

This early 80s trend is back with a bang but with a feminine and delicate twist. Think ruffles, feathers, chiffon and sheer detailing and you’ll find an idyllic trend for spring 2016. Pretty examples included pieces from Valentino’s collection that radiated gorgeous texture and delicate embellishment.

Grungy Floral

Every spring we see the age-old trend of floral reappear, this season designers have mixed it up with an edgier, grungy feel giving nothing less than extreme femininity mixed with a hard-hitting spring print.

Spring/summer 2016 has provided an eclectic mix of vintage trends paired with modern design. You are sure to find a piece in every collection that takes inspiration from the iconic eras of the past century. Although winter seems to have only just begun, very soon a preview of autumn/winter trends will take place and we’re excited to see what vintage trends have inspired next year’s collections.
