90s Clothes Men – The Fashion Trend Is Back and We Couldn’t Be Happier

May 4, 2024

90s Clothes Men is a fashion trend that never went away fully, but now it’s back, bigger and better than ever. Here’s a guide for the clothes you can finally dig out of storage again!

90s Clothes Men: What Is It?

The 90s were a hubbub for creativity of all shapes and sizes: be it music, art, movies, tv shows, or most iconically, fashion. Ranging from staples like the hip hop inspired baggy jeans or the more chic slim-fitting turtlenecks sported by the likes of Justin Timberlake,

90s style had something for everyone – especially men. Feeling edgier? Go for a biker jacket and some grunge-inspired combat boots. Want to keep it casual and comfy? Find yourself an oversized flannel shirt and cargo pants… Whatever your mood, 90s fashion for men has you covered!

So what about now? Can we bring 90s clothes Men back into the limelight and make a fashion statement? Our hearts say yes – and here’s how to do it.

90s Clothes Men – Snapbacks

Snapback caps (or flat caps) are an iconic staple of the 90s hip hop music scene. First of all, they’re convenient – we all know how important it is to protect your eyes and skin from the sun! – but they have a stylish element to boot that can’t be beaten. 30 years may have passed between now and the 90s, but snapbacks are still at the top of their game: no longer reserved for only rappers or hip hop artists (though we have to admit, they really know how to wear snapbacks the best…)

Feeling like you want to give a snapback a try? Embrace the wide range of the retro 90s Mens Clothing look and consider pairing it with some casual jeans; even some baggy ones if you have them and a tank top. A bold color-popping snapback can jazz up any outfit or clothes selection, but remember not to wear it pointed sideways – 90s fashion for men may be making a comeback, but the sideways snapback angle is a look better left in the past!

Bucket Hats

Our second entry for this style guide is another statement piece of headwear: the bucket hat (we promise to branch out to clothes for our next entry!). Though this sun-savvy item is usually seen sported by fishermen, there’s no denying that the bucket hat is a fashion statement that deserves a revival!

A bucket hat is quirky, simple and well, let’s face it, practical. Suitable for men and women alike, why not pair a bucket hat with a flannel shirt for some laid-back 90s Mens Clothing style? The hats are available in a wide range of prints, textures and colors, so you’re bound to find one to suit your own preferences. Make like the main character of your own personal 90s tv show and try a bucket hat today!

Baggy Jeans

Baggy jeans. Maybe you love them, maybe you hate them, but there’s no denying that baggy jeans were an ICONIC hip hop statement from the 90s clothes scene.

Maybe these continent-sized denims weren’t exactly the most practical (soggy jean cuffs from walking through puddles, anyone?), but that didn’t stop them from taking 90s Clothes Men by storm. Originally flaunted by hip hop artists and rappers, baggy jeans are comfy, casual and a great lesson in improving your gait – seriously, trying to walk in these without them falling to your ankles should be an Olympic sport – and we for one have been awaiting their revival.

Consider pairing some baggy jeans with a tank top for the ultimate 90s inspired throwback look: it’ll also be the comfiest vintage outfit you can find!

90s Clothes Men – Overalls

This could be a controversial one, but bear with us: overalls. If you think of 90s Clothes Men, chances are an image of Will Smith clad in denim overalls and a funky shirt giving a jaunty shrug to the camera in a popular tv show will pop into your head. And it’s for a good reason: overalls and dungarees were a signature look of the 90s. But can they be brought back? We think so.

We won’t lie to you, they’re a bold fashion statement, but clothes are for expressing yourself and being creative, so give it a shot! Pair a pair (try saying that ten times in a row) with a statement t-shirt and even some combat boots for a full 90s retro look. Have a look at Will Smith’s 90s photo-shoots for some inspiration, but even modern-day men like Chance the Rapper and Tyler the Creator are serving dungaree goodness!

Turtlenecks

There are few men’s clothes pieces from the 90s that give off as distinguished an air as the simple turtleneck. Despite celebrities like Justin Timberlake spearheading the 90s inspired staple back in the day, the turtleneck has been left to wayside in modern times – worn primarily by history teachers and philosophy majors.

But no more! The turtleneck is a chic, simple way to class up any outfit: pair it with some slacks for a refined look, or with some jeans for a more casual approach. If you’d really like to embrace the wide range of 90s Clothes Men’s styles, consider pairing your turtleneck with a chain and some denim jeans, à la Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s iconic 90s style photoshoot picture.

90s Clothes Men – Leather Biker Jackets

I think at some point in all of our lives, we’ve craved a really well-fitting leather jacket. I mean, who could blame us? With the iconic looks delivered to us in the retro 90s by grunge bands and A-list celebrities alike, there’s not a whole lot to dislike about owning a leather biker jacket.

Though this statement piece originated as a rebellion against mainstream fashion by many men, it has now become a key component of many wardrobes everywhere (it’s a bit ironic, really). Fret not if you don’t play in a rock band or own a motorbike: leather biker jackets have officially transcended such things! Clothes are immediately spruced up by wearing a leather jacket atop, and it’ll keep you warm to boot. Consider pairing your jacket with some ripped jeans and combat boots for the ultimate edgy 90s Clothes Men’s fashion statement.

Windbreakers – The Most Convenient 90s Clothes Men’s Staple

Windbreakers may just seem like a useful wardrobe item to shield you from the cold, but that’s not all they have to offer. It’s been 30 years since they hit the big-time in the 90s, and windbreakers still remain an easy way to spice up any 90s inspired outfit (and keep you warm too!).

Archetypical 90s Clothes Men’s wardrobes from the 90s usually included at least one windbreaker, and now’s the time to pull them and your favourite flannel shirt back out from storage. With a wide range of options available (think color-blocking, funky prints and two-tones), windbreakers are suitable for any occasion. A mid-afternoon stroll? No problem. Drinks downtown? Gotcha. Hiking trips? Sorted.

Don’t be afraid to really go bold with your windbreaker – if your clothes are of muted tones, consider a punchy color-blocked 90s style windbreaker or a statement print. And hey, if nothing else: you’ll be prepared and ready for any sudden windstorms!

Combat Boots

Doc Martens. Need we say more? Though these iconic combat boots were originally a huge trend in 90s fashion for men, they’ve taken the fashion world by storm and now anyone at all can avail of their grunge aesthetic. Even the most delicate of clothes and outfits can be spruced up by adding a pair of Doc Martens and a leather biker jacket with ripped jeans, or cargo pants and no decade served to show us this as perfectly as the 90s.

While many fashion statements from over the years fade away in time, combat boots are bigger than ever, being a staple in near everyone’s wardrobe. Sporting a pair of these practical, comfy boots will not only pay homage to the retro 90s Clothes Men’s style, but keep you right in season for today’s 90s inspired fashion trends. It’s a win-win (but remember to wear some thick socks for the ‘breaking-in’ phase…)!
